THE CURRENT WWE WOMEN'S TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS |
Women and Men must be equal, therefore, during the age of the "Women's (R)evolution", the Women's Tag Team Championships were introduced. These Titles can and must be defended in all three brands (Raw, Smackdown and NXT) with the Champions moving from brand to brand as well, leaving space to the imagination and dream matches.
The belts make their first appearance on WWE Raw during a special edition of "A Moment of Bliss" with Alexa Bliss announcing that the first-ever champions would be crowned inside the Elimination Chamber with six Teams participating: The Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan), Carmella & Naomi, The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay), Fire & Desire (Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose), Nia Jax & Tamina and The Boss 'n Hug Connection (Sasha Banks & Bayley). The last team was the winner and started the Era of the Women's Tag Team Wrestling in WWE.
Here start the problems: Bayley and Sasha lose the Titles at WrestleMania to the IIconics but their reign is highly forgettable since they barely show up to defend the crowns and their matches are pointless. From this reign the Titles go into the oblivion: Teams are not created, those who existed break up, there are no plans for the Championships and their importance start to fade. Too bad, this continues still today, and that is the real issue because you cannot have a Tag Team division without Teams; if you watch weekly shows you must have noticed that the real Women's Teams are only 4: The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane), Bayley and Sasha, Peyton and Billie and the current Champions Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. For what concerns the first two teams, they have one of their members as Single Champion (Asuka on Raw and Bayley on Smackdown) and are ignoring the Tag division, and the other two are battling right now on Raw, but they cannot keep fighting for the eternity. Plus, those few real teams they had (Fire & Desire or The Riott Squad ) were destroyed , and maybe they are setting up an implosion of the IIconics, so who will be competing for those championships? And where are the NXT Teams?
Now, I do not want to be considered as a bad person, but why trying to reach this equality between Men and Women when you do not have the basis to make so? I think that having things like the Women's Tag Team Championships only ruins the reputation of their female superstars, not because it is a bad idea, but because they do not have the instruments to realize it.
Finally, I think that instead of having events (Evolution), matches (hell in a cell, Money In The Bank) and Championships, the priority is to build a very credible division, give real importance to Women as Superstars and human beings, because this is what valorize them, and when they have the credibility and the company has solid basis then those events, matches and Championships can be created, and only then both Men and Women will be equal; until that moment it will not matter how many promotional things they do, it will only be a matter of image of the company and nothing more, and it is too bad, because these girls really have it all to be the best.
