"We can all be champions, we only have to learn how to be humans."

Apollo Crews new United States Champion

We all learned about the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and this has been object of discussion these past few days. George was killed by the policeman, his last words were: "I can't breathe, they are going to kill me." Now, I know that in Minnesota an entire community is revolting and buildings are being destroyed, which is a big issue, but in this article I want to focus on the first case.

Many recognized that George was murdered because of the colour of his skin, so the policeman was accused of racism. It is very strange how in America technology, cars and more developed in an impressionable way and yet there are cases of racism; as if progress was more important than human values. I know that at this point you may be wondering why I am talking about this in a Wrestling-Related Space and the answer is because WWE has often been accused of being racist as well.

Lately, we have witnessed wrestlers like Kofi Kingston receive the most prestigious trophy of the company when he won the WWE Championship over Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania last year, so WWE is likely trying to prove those accusations wrong. The last proof comes from Raw, when Apollo Crews defeated Andrade to become the New United States Champion. Another black-skinned wrestler receives major accomplishment. That is not all, we have The New Day as tag team Champions, 8 times by the way, and Bobby Lashley as Number One Contender for the WWE Championship held by Drew McIntyre.

If you are thinking right now about the case of Jordan Mayles, all you have to know is that it happened because there was a misunderstanding on a T-Shirt on the WWE.Shop, and that the former Wrestler felt offended and left the company, but that was not an act of racism. Mark Henry, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingston, Bobby Lashley, Booker T and others are only few of those Superstars that WWE made relevant despite their skin colour, which is a major statement about their thoughts on the topic.

They often faced this problem, and they always managed to handle it. On the contrary, using global platforms such as WWE and all its promotional activities to spread the message of avoiding and condemning all kind of racism (skin colour, sexuality, bullies) only benefits the company, and in a moment like this where a pandemic is on, a girl committed suicide, a father died to save his son but in a tragedy, a community is rebelling and a policeman killed a man because of his colour, being kind is the only thing that will likely save us, because we can all be champions, we only have to learn how to be humans.
