Matt Riddle on Smackdown |
This past Friday on Smackdown we all witnessed a new debut, Matt Riddle from NXT. Every time someone gets a call up to the main roster, the guy or the woman is almost unknown and they have to try to make a name for themselves in the big leagues. NXT is where superstars are built, they train their in-ring and microphone abilities at the Performance Center waiting for a chance to make history.
This is how it works, or how it should; yes, because every time someone from NXT goes to Raw or Smackdown, fans start fearing that all the work that athlete did will be ruined and forgotten. From my point of view, few people have really been ruined since coming from NXT; when talking about ruined wrestlers, people refer to Ricochet (former United States Champion and former number one contender to Brock Lesnar), Sasha Banks (current Women's Tag Team Champion and former Raw Women's Champion), Nakamura (former Royal Rumble winner, former intercontinental champion), Apollo Crews (current United States Champion), Sami Zayn (former intercontinental champion), I could go on and on with Black or Shorty G but I'll stop here. What I am trying to say is that whoever comes from NXT receives his chances to shine sooner or later, problem is that not everyone is able to handle the pressure; because being a main eventer is not only a matter of good moves, but charisma, connection with the crowd, giving relevance to your character, and these are abilities that you must have, you cannot learn.
This brings me to Smackdown's newest acquisition, Matt Riddle. The guy is talented for sure and the company stated his position by having him beat clean the current Intercontinental Champion, AJ Styles. This debut gives hope about Riddle's future, but now it is his job to prove that he can be there, in the big league, fighting against the very best; he needs to work on every side of his persona, because this is what makes you a real deal. You constantly need to evolve, to change, like Bray Wyatt, Daniel Bryan, Drew McIntyre, The Miz; Jericho was an artist in this. You have to be an assurance for the company and never be boring, it is not enough being a good competitor on NXT, because if NXT gets 700.000 people watching while Raw or Smackdown get over 2 millions there is a reason.
Sooner or later everyone gets his opportunity, so we will see if this Bro is really gonna run the Show or will end like any other superstar that does not have what it takes: ruined.
Leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on this guy, see you soon!
