Drew McIntyre WWE Champion |
It has been a lot of time, too much time, since we had a fighting and dominant champion like Drew McIntyre, a Champion able to give importance and relevance to the title and being believable at the same time.
It all started at WrestleMania, the weirdest of the history, and Drew was in the Main Event, not against someone unknown but against Brock Lesnar, and Drew beat him in five minutes. This is how you impose yourself. That is not all; on the same night, after achieving his dream, after beating Lesnar, Big Show comes out with a referee and challenges Drew who eventually accepts, fighting his second match of the night and winning it. If this is not the way to show that the company believes in him, tell me which one is.
Many thought that after Mania Drew's reign would have lost credibility, but you know what happened? He challenged non other than Seth Rollins, The Monday Night Messiah, one of the most interesting characters nowadays. Almost forgot, Drew beat him as well. Now for him there is an obstacle called Bobby Lashley with MVP; the feud is good and there are speculations that McIntyre could lose the championship. I'm not too sure about that, and if this was the truth it would be a huge mistake. I heard a lot of people complaining about his work as champion, but how can you complain about someone who sacrificed himself and worked so hard only to reach his goal? It's a matter of humility, and it should be admired.
Because, you know, what makes Drew an amazing Champion is not only a title defense, but his charisma, his charm, the fact that he himself wants to write his own promos, the fact that he wants to act as an actual champion and not only how he is told to, and that is the biggest difference between him and his predecessors. He fought 19 years to achieve this, he was fired the first time in WWE, did he give up? No, he cameback, rebuilt himself, imposed his will on NXT and now he is on top of the company. It is inspiring, a champion worthy story; you can feel his energy each and every time he steps foot into the ring.
Drew has been carrying Raw over his shoulders for the last two months, and we are ready to cheer every time someone goes to Claymore country; hopefully this will not end soon, and if it will we know that he will talk less and clay more to go back to the top.
